We invite experienced arts educators to join a community of mentors to support the newest members of our professional field. Through a contract from MA DESE, Arts|Learning will collaborate with ten arts mentors to create a professional development program for up to 150 new arts educators to advance their skills in curriculum and instruction and support the specific challenges novice visual and performing arts teachers face.
Mentor-Mentee learning communities will meet in a combination of virtual and in-person sessions (2-4 hours per month) from January - June 2023.
Mentor-Mentees will be grouped strategically, by arts discipline (music, visual art, theater, dance, media arts) and region (Northeast, Southeast, Greater Boston, Central, Western).
We seek mentors with a high level of subject matter knowledge, experience in best practices in arts teaching, and experience facilitating adult learners.
Qualifications:
Three years of practicum supervision experience, mentoring experience, or Art Coordinator experience
Arts content knowledge in one or more of the 5 arts disciplines: music, visual arts, theater, dance, or media
Experience with the implementation of the MA Arts Curriculum Frameworks and the DESE Classroom Teacher Rubric
Mentors will receive $500 plus $100 for each teacher they mentor. The maximum assigned mentees will be 15 per mentor. We are seeking 10 mentors.
